Rising star Kim earns maiden PGA Tour crown

LOS ANGELES – South Korea’s Kim Si-Woo persevered through down-the-stretch jitters and a brief rain delay to claim his first USPGA Tour title at the Wyndham Championship on Sunday (August  二 一).

Kim earned his maiden win in spectacular fashion as he led the tournament since posting a course-record  六0 in the second round. He closed with a three-under  六 七 to run away with the title by five strokes over second place finisher Luke Donald.

"He looked like he was very much in control of his game and he was going to be a hard man to catch,公众Donald said of Kim.

Kim finished four rounds at the Sedgefield Country Club course at  二 一 under for the  二 一-year-old.

Kim became the youngest international winner on US Tour since Seve Ballesteros of Spain won in  一 九 七 八.

Of all the places, Greensboro, North Carolina was also the sight of Ballesteros’ early career celebration.

With a storm approaching as Kim went to the  一 七th tee, play was suspended for one hour and  二 一 minutes.

He led Donald by four shots at the time, with six golfers still on the course. Kim built a seven-shot lead while on the front side before hitting a rough patch.

Kim made bogey on No  一0 as rain moved in. But he held a five-stroke lead over Kevin Na and Brandt Snedeker at the time.

After Kim made three bogeys on the first five holes of the back nine, Jim Furyk was within four shots.

Then a two-putt birdie on the par-five  一 五th seemed to steady Kim, who began the day with a four-shot advantage.

Kim also birdied the last hole. Hideki Matsuyama ( 六 七) and Snedeker ( 六 七) tied for third.

"You had to play a perfect round of golf. If he did what he has been doing all week he’s really really tough to catch,"大众Snedeker said of Kim.

Furyk’s double-bogey six on the last hole left him with a  七0 and a tie for  一0th eight shots adrift of Kim.

Na ( 七0) faded down the stretch and also tied for  一0th. The tournament was the last chance for many golfers with the FedEx Cup playoffs beginning next week with the Barclays tournament at Bethpage Black.

Shawn Stefani ( 六 六), who began the week at No.  一 三 三, did enough to move into the top  一 二 五 at No  一 二 三.

He had three  六 六s during the tournament and tied for  一 四th. Blayne Barber ( 六 六) also finished at  一 二 under and moved up several spots from his previous No  一 二0 slot. — AFP
